Why use hypnosis for quitting smoking

Hypnosis is the best thing smokers have available to stop smoking safely, easily. Numerous clinical studies around the world have proven that hypnotherapy is "the MOST effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit" (UK New Scientist 10/92). Indeed, hypnosis for quitting smoking is "more effective than nicotine replacement, more effective than willpower, more effective than acupuncture and more effective than self-help books and tapes" (Journal of Applied Psychology 10/92). It is also more effective than patches, gum or books and it allows you to stop smoking easily, in a calm and relaxed way, without cravings for nicotine or food.

Hypnosis is NOT a magic wand though - it cannot make you quit smoking if deep down you don't want to. This is why I only take clients who are 100% absolutely committed to and wanting to make their change and who are truly connected to their reasons for quitting smoking (if that IS you, let's get started now!). How hypnosis works for quitting smoking

  • It enables you to replace or update your old smoking programme that is stored in your subconscious mind, with new suggestions for more useful ways of behaving and being without cigarette smoking. This is because your critical, analytical, rational and sabotaging conscious mind has relaxed enough to not get in the way of this! You stop smoking - and you stay stopped!
  • It lets you switch off the commands that used to make you smoke - and allows you to respond to a new set of subconscious preferences that has you valuing and following a mindset of a healthy person who is effortlessly smoke-free.
  • It empowers you to better cope with those situations and stimuli that would have triggered you to light up and smoke in the past. This leaves you instead, feeling more relaxed, calm, and happy as a person in control of their life and their world, without cigarettes - and free from cravings, free from excessive anxiety or stress, free from gaining excess weight, free from the need to use massive willpower!
  • It enables you to automatically turn your thoughts to other things, better things, without really thinking about cigarette smoking.

How many sessions

Although a lot of my smokers stop smoking after their first session, I require them to have at least 2 more sessions. You are after all, interested in stopping and staying stopped permanently are you not, and for this, repetition of sessions is needed. This shouldn't be so surprising when you consider that all habits become habits through repetition of thought and action - and it's exactly the same for creating your new habit of being smoke free!

The majority of clients do need anywhere from 3-5 sessions, and usually more around the 3-4 mark. As you can see, a small investment of time and money - compared with a lifetime of spending on cigarettes and health bills!
